6.00-6.15pm
Reception begins with Världens Band, a transglobal roots fusion, vibrant mix of music from Sweden, Senegal, India, France, England, Scotland, Israel and Tunisia, who come to us fresh from the World Music Stage at Cambridge Folk Festival. Världens Band performs folk and roots music from their native countries in a collision of cultures and a style they have self-branded as ‘Transglobal Roots Fusion’. Formed in 2012, Världens Band is an explosive orchestra where Swedish melodies meet Scottish reels, English guitar accompanies Indian classical song, Galician pipes play Balkan melodies and the Senegalese kora blends with Mediterranean rhythms. Reception Welcome by Professor Geoff Hayward, Head of Faculty. Co-editors Professors Pam Burnard & Kimberly Powell briefly introduce The Routledge International HandBook project followed by performance of the Intercultural Arts Dedication poem ‘Hail Global Voices!’ by Patricia Leon Lashley-Charles.

‘Dancing words/Embodying words’ In this performance given by Ariadna Sarrats (dancer) and Cristina Fernández (poet) we see how words can be embodied, materialized, and turning into improvised movement.

6.35-6.40pm
Cassandre Bolosso-Bardin, a contributing author in the Handbook and member of Världens band will share some links between writing about and performing interculturality as in ‘Revolution’, which follows, a piece composed by Abdou but arranged collectively by the band.

6.40-7pm
